Nissan Leaf, an all-electric car (EV) has taken the title of Japanese Car of the Year (JCOTY) 2011! For the first time ever an EV won this prestigious award. The Nissan Leaf, which is also the winner of the European Car of the Year 2011 award, must have made Nissan proud and this also shows that EV is improving in a tremendous pace.
The Nissan Leaf is a zero-emission vehicle which depend fully on its rechargeable lithium-ion batteries to power the car. Following the good response on Malaysia's first registered EV, the Mitsubishi MiEV, the Nissan Leaf would be another great addition if EVs were to come to Malaysia!
Below is the list of JCOTY winner in the past 5 years:
2010 Honda CR-Z
2009 Toyota Prius
2008 Toyota iQ
2007 Honda Fit (Jazz)
2006 Lexus LS430
As you can see Honda CR-Z and Toyota Prius, both are hybrid cars, was the winner in the year of 2010 and 2009 respectively. Now, Nissan Leaf, which is an EV emerged as the winner of JCOTY 2011. This is hinting that EV is the next big thing!
By the way, the 2011 World Car of the Year award is coming and the Nissan Leaf might have a huge possibility in winning it!
