2013 Toyota Auris - Meaner & Hotter!

Without looking at its front end, you'll thought that Mazda has come out with its Mazda 3 replacement model. The hot looking car in red above is actually a product from Toyota, the 2013 model of Toyota Auris (hatchback version of Corolla). A bit shocking because the word 'bland' or 'plain vanilla' often appear in everyone's mind when they think about Toyota. Thus, Toyota is set to change that by injecting sharper and bolder styling into its future products.

The sharper, V-shaped front end is much more appreciated compared to its predecessor's bubblish front end. The headlights and grilles has cues of the current Corolla Altis, which is set to be replaced soon. Hopefully the next generation Altis' design will be inspired by the Auris. The rear is sporty too, but the bootlid can be improved in terms of design because the handle area is as big as a crater. The slippery exterior contributes to a Cd 0.28 drag coefficient.

The 2013 Auris is 4275mm in length, 1760mm wide, 1460mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2600mm. Compared to its predecessor, this new Auris is 30mm longer, 55mm lower (better handling will be ensured) but the width and wheelbase remain unchanged. Being a C-segment hatchback with 2600mm wheelbase doesn't stand out when compared to its competitors as most of them has longer wheelbase. Same goes for the next generation Altis, where it should have at least a wheelbase of 2650mm.

Both Auris hatchback and hybrid share the same boot space figure - 360litres. It's an increase 127litres of boot space in the hybrid compared to its predecessor, thanks to smarter packaging of the battery pack by placing it under the rear seats. Within the UK the Auris will feature 1.4litre diesel, and 1.33 and 1.6litre petrol engines.

The 2013 Toyota Corolla Sedan (also known as Corolla Altis in Malaysia) below is illustrated by Theophilus Chin. Personally I think it look more aggressive than the 2013 Forte! It will be selling like hot cakes if the actual design of the 2013 Corolla is inspired by the 2013 Auris, together with improved handling and performance!
