Ford Fiesta facelift & Mondeo - Comes With 1.0 Ecoboost Engine!

It seems like September is a busy month for Ford. After the unveiling of facelifted Ford Fiesta, Ford has lifted the wrap off its all-new Ford Mondeo. Both models comes with Ford's new signature front end design, which is the trapezoidal grille. Other than that, the highlight is on the engine, where both the Fiesta and Mondeo are fitted with Ford's 1.0 litre Ecoboost engine. Yup, it's one point zero litre! It's understandable for the Fiesta but a D-segment sedan Mondeo? Read on!

The current engine range starts with a naturally aspirated 1.6 litre petrol engine which produces 118bhp and 160Nm of torque. However if the 1.6 litre engine is compared with the 1.0 litre Ecoboost engine, the latter produces 5bhp more at 123bhp and 170Nm from as low as 1400rpm! 200Nm will be available in 'Overboost' mode too! The acceleration might not be mind blowing for the Mondeo, but it will provide adequate power for city driving as well as a relaxing drive on the highway.

The 1.0 litre Ecoboost engine is 2012 "International Engine of the Year", where it's a three-cylinder direct-injection turbocharged variant. It will make the Mondeo as one of the cleanest cars in its class, with CO2 emission of under 130g/km. Along with that, the Mondeo is equipped with LED headlights, inflatable rear seatbelts, Ford SYNC etc.

Back to the Fiesta, where there's something interesting equipped in it. Ford's MyKey is something that enables the owner to set the car's maximum speed, safety system setting as well as limit on the audio system (ie. the maximum volume of the audio), a good innovation that act as a parental lock.

Will you accept a 1.0 litre engine (although turbocharged) for a D-segment car? I wonder will the 1.0 litre Ecoboost engine will be here in Malaysia for the Fiesta facelift, Focus and Mondeo......
