Mitsubishi Mirage launched in Malaysia - From RM56,980

Mitsubishi has done a great job in promoting the Mirage months before it is launched in Malaysia via social media networks. Letting the public to check out the Mirage as well as test driving it before its launch also generated interest among some Malaysian. Now, officially available in Malaysia, the B-segment hatchback Mirage is priced at RM56,980 for the entry-level GL manual, RM61,980 for the mid-spec GL CVT and RM64,908 for the top-of-the-line GS CVT.

CBU from Thailand, the Mitsubishi Mirage comes with a 1.2 litres powerplant which generates 78 PS at 6000rpm and 100Nm at 4000rpm. With the help of a lightweight body of just 825kg for the manual and 850kg for the CVT and good aerodynamic of 0.30Cd, the Mirage is able to achieve a fuel consumption of 21km/l! It is an impressive figure considering many hybrids has close-to-similar figure!

The cabin is not as small as the exterior suggests. In my previous review, I have no problem fitting in the back seat with the front seat adjusted to the position of my height (1.8m). The boot might not be ample, but it's deep enough to fit in plenty of stuff from a shopping spree. The base model GL manual comes with dual airbags, ABS, EBD, ISOFix, power adjustable wing mirrors, 2-DIN audio system with USB and iPod connectivity as standard. Then the GS CVT get extras such as leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, rear spoiler with 3rd brake lights, front fog lights, push-start button with keyless entry and automatic climate control.

Mitsubishi estimated 400 bookings per month but looks like till now, 500 bookings has been made with 90% goes to the top variant, GS CVT. To me, the pricing is slightly on the high side but in return, you get a reliable and very fuel efficient car. I would suggest that the GL manual or CVT would be competent enough for daily driving in the city since it already has dual airbags for safety purpose.
