Mitsubishi Attrage from RM59k - VS. Nissan Almera !

Mitsubishi Attrage is set to be the cheapest non-local sedan in Malaysia's market. Introductory price starting from RM59,000 on-the-road without insurance, the B-segment Attrage is cheaper than the entry level manual transmission Nissan Almera which is selling at RM66,800. One thing though, Attrage comes with a 1.2 litre engine while Almera has a 1.5 litre engine.

Comparing an Almera with the Attrage would be inevitable. Almera comes with 102PS at 6000rpm and 139Nm of torque at 4000rpm. Fuel efficiency rated at 14.9km/l. Attrage with 1.2 litre engine, on the other hand, comes with 80PS at 6000rpm and 106Nm of torque at 4000rpm. However, it returns with an exceptionally good 21km/l fuel economy! This is helped by good aerodynamic and kerb weight of 915kg (Almera E (MT) is 1020kg). This is a boon since the price of our RON95 has just increased by 20 cent per litre. So there is pros and cons for each model.

Design wise, Mitsubishi Attrage is more upmarket looking than the Almera. Side profile of both car is a little off-proportion since both are based on their hatchback counterpart, but Attrage's side profile is executed better I would say. The 90's exterior door handle should be avoided by the designers on the Attrage.

Attrage's dashboard is a direct lift-off from Mirage hatchback, bu it is unknown whether there is any improvement has been done on it. Attrage has a wheelbase of 2550mm, but Almera has 2600mm wheelbase. Not sure how well the Attrage would fare in terms of rear legroom in real life, it shouldn't be cramped, but Almera is clearly on the winning side. Boot space measured at 450 litres, but Almera is bigger by 40 litres. Attrage is 4245mm long, 1670mm wide and 1515mm tall, while Almera is 4425mm long, 1695mm wide and 1510mm tall.

Good news, Attrage comes with dual airbags across the range! Same goes with ABS and EBD. Both GL manual and CVT has fog lights, 15" alloy rims, halogen headlights and gated gear shift as standard. GS has additional leather-wrapped steering wheel, digital auto-air cond and keyless entry with push start button. Top-of -the-range SE has body kits, LED daytime running lights, security tinting, leather seats and 2-DIN touch screen audio unit with USB, AUX-in and reverse camera as standard.

3-year/100,000km warranty is offered and free Garmin GPS for the first 1,000 booking! Tentative price including insurance for the Attrage is:
GL manual: RM61,000
GL CVT: RM65,000
GS: RM71,000
SE: RM78,000

61k for this sedan is a good buy... the dashboard looks more modern than almera. It doesn't really matter if it's just 1.2l if it's only driven in city area or just to work la... save more petrol right? :)

Henry: Ya it's the perfect city car but might struggle going up Genting with full load I guess.

how many times a year do we go up to genting anyway?

SiMon Har said...

Anonymous: But Genting is a venue where each car buyer will think of when it comes to purchasing a small capacity engined car! The "Is the car got enough power to climb up Genting?" question will be on their mind :)

I just went cross country to test my Attrage. There is no problem running up hills. I am packing 4 adults including myself in the drive. Please do buy Attrage. Its the best car ever created. Period.

My cross country is from KL-Pahang-K.Terengganu-Kota Bharu-Sg Petani-Ipoh-KL.

It was a test drive. And superbly done. Attrage wins all the way with just 3 times of refueling.
