Nissan Almera Launched - RM66.8k-RM79.8k !

Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) has unveiled the Nissan Almera at One World Hotel! I know the covered Almera above doesn't seems like their wraps were being removed, so read on!

The huge 'ALMERA' wording is placed at the lobby, too bad the crowd was too heavy for me to take a better picture of it!

From the 130Y to the 12 years old Nissan Sentra which is still selling in Malaysia were there to showcase the legacy of the Almera's predecessors. There are reasons why many 130Y and older Sentras (those used as Genting taxis) are still on the road after decades!

The B-segment Nissan Almera along with its elder siblings were displayed during the launch. Great news about the pricing was announced: RM66,800 for entry-level E manual transmission Almera; RM69,800 for entry level E automatic transmission; RM76,800 for V auto and RM79,800 for VL auto. Both manual and automatic transmission of E variant are priced just below RM70k, which is a very good news for car buyers!

Below is the E spec Almera. It can be differentiated from the rest of the line by spotting the E variant's wheel cover.

For those who want to stand out from the crowd, Impul upgrade is available for all variants. The whole package would cost an additional RM9500, which comprises a new front grille, aerokits, sport suspension that makes the ground clearance 25mm lower, exhaust muffler and a choice of either 16" or 17" rims.

Boot space is one of Almera's key selling points. At 490 litres, Almera's boot is just a tad smaller than its D-segment sedan sibling, Teana (506 litres)! Look how happy Ethan (son of Merryn Tan, a blogger) was in the boot! XD

Performance wise, Almera has a 1.5 litres engine with CVTC that produces 102PS and 139Nm of torque at 4000rpm. With a kerb weight of slightly over one-tonne mark, the Almera can achieve a fuel consumption of 15.9km/l with the manual transmission and 14.9km/l in the automatic transmission!

Since E variant is the entry level model, it doesn't have fog lights, silver and chrome finishing for some cabin parts, have to make do with wheel covers and a single airbag for the driver. Hopefully 2 airbags will be made available for the base model Almera during its facelift. V variant get extras such as fine vision meter, remote trunk release and 2 airbags. VL, being the top-of-the-line model, gain the gadgets such as keyless entry with push-start button, steering wheel audio controls, i-key, automatic air-conditioning and temperature display.

The cabin no doubt is HUGE! Impressive 636mm legroom at the back which enables me to capture the pictures below from the back seat with my bag on my back!
Spot the difference: E variant (top), V (middle) and VL variant (bottom).

Safety wise, ABS, EBD, BA, 3-point rear seats for 3 occupants and ISOFix are standard across the range. Optional accessories are also available for Almera owners to personalize their cars.

Unfortunately I couldn't make it to Almera's media drive to Melaka, or else I would be able to report how well it behaves on the road. I am really interested in the Almera! A lot of friends has been asking me how is the Almera, and it shows that the Almera has generated a huge interest among Malaysian. I'm sure a new legacy had just began...
